Hyperion continues its monumental Romantic Piano Concerto series with the 57th installment dedicated to Swedish composer Adolf Wiklund’s (1879-1950) piano concertos. The idea of a Nordic Rachmaninov (from Hyperion’s notes) certainly is enticing and we look forward to hearing it.
Canadian pianist Marc-André Hamelin adds a new volume to his two much acclaimed Haydn sonata recordings. Despite the replacement of Hamelin’s face on the cover (instead of Haydn’s), we have high hopes for a no less satisfying release, given the overall excellence, immaculacy and ineffable control of elegance and charm from the previous ones. Surely, Hamelin stands alongside Jean-Efflam Bavouzet as two most distinguished Haydn pianists of recent times.
