Obituary: Lorin Maazel (1930-2014)

Veteran conductor and former child prodigy Lorin Maazel has died aged 84 from complications of pneumonia.

Maazel was born in France to Jewish American parents and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He made his conducting debut at age 8 and conducted the NBC Symphony Orchestra at age 11.  He has served in the capacity of Continue reading

Top Ear’s Very Own Debussy Tribute!

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the French composer Claude Debussy, a giant of French impressionism and a revolutionary figure of 20th century music.  His famous Clair de Lune of Suite Bergamasque has long been a favorite of amateur pianists, and the Etudes and two books of Preludes staples of the concert repertoire.
